The Culture of Caring Gala is a celebration of Cascadia’s work in the community, highlighting the impacts of community support for individuals experiencing mental health challenges, addiction, poverty, trauma, and homelessness. This event brings together a network of corporate partners and sponsors, individual donors, community members, nonprofit organizations, staff, and patients to share in the work and mission of Cascadia that is needed now more than ever.
Honorees
Alex Chiu
Arts & Social Justice
Alex Chiu is a Chinese-American painter and muralist currently living in Portland, OR. With a background in illustration and comics, he approaches public artwork as a form of visual storytelling. Much of his artwork involves incorporating community input and collaboration. The goal of his work is to accurately document local history and help communities to process cultural identity through a creative process.
Laquida “Q” Landford
Health & Housing
LaQuida Landford leads AfroVillage PDX, a community organization dedicated to equity and sustainability for Portland's Black and Brown communities. Her work includes housing solutions, community care, digital access, health programs, cultural events, and economic empowerment for marginalized groups. LaQuida’s leadership fosters a supportive community and has garnered recognition for promoting social equity and justice.
Judge Nan Waller
Civic Engagement
Judge Waller has been on the Multnomah County Circuit Court since 2001, including 6 years as Presiding Judge, and now oversees the Mental Health Court. She has led initiatives like Oregon eCourt, co-chairs the Chief Justice’s Behavioral Health Advisory Council, and serves on several boards. She has received multiple awards, including the National CASA Judge of the Year. She holds a BA from Stanford and a JD from the University of Oregon.

Meet Kyran (Ky) McCoy, your charismatic host for Cascadia Health’s 2024 gala! Since 2021, Ky has brought energy to the Basic Rights Oregon gala. By day, Ky is a Business Systems Analyst at Cascadia Health, ensuring smooth operations. Ky is also a skilled storyteller, recently becoming a finalist at The Moth GrandSlam in March 2024, and runs a pet care side hustle, Pet Daddies PDX. Join us in welcoming Ky—a storyteller, tech whiz, animal lover, and the perfect host for our gala!

Jimmie Herrod
Renowned vocalist Jimmie Herrod, celebrated for his standout performances on "America’s Got Talent," brings his powerful voice to global stages. He's performed with top orchestras, headlined major venues, and toured with Pink Martini. In 2024, Herrod will release a new solo album, embark on a major tour, and make his NYC debut. An alum of Cornish College of the Arts and Portland State University, Herrod continues to mesmerize audiences with his unique style and dynamic presence.

Johnna Wells has raised more than 300 million dollars throughout the country for Nonprofit Organizations, Art Museums, and Foundations. She is a second-generation Auctioneer, Artist and Advocate who partners with change makers from coast to coast, empowering each along the way to be the change they wish to see in the world. Founder of Benefit Auctions 360, Johnna is motivated to create moments that champion community and celebrate one’s connection to place and purpose.

DeVon “DJ Pounce” Pouncey
DJ Pounce is a DJ/Broadcaster who maintains several local residencies where he can be heard around the PDX area. He got his start doing college radio for Boxer Radio at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon and has since worked his way up the Portland Metro area to DJ for companies such as Keen, Revant Optics and more. He has also DJ’d for celebrities such as Damian Lillard and a long list of musical artists.
ARTIST
Monica Rose Kelly
Monica is an analog and digital artist blending public art, illustration, and light-based art. Based in New Orleans, she also spends time in Portland, creating works inspired by sound and rhythm. Her "live light painting" merges digital painting with live music. She tours with MarchFourth and performed at the 2023 Portland Winter Light Festival, debuting "Resonance Waves." Monica recently designed projections for AWOL's "Glass Shadows" at the Alberta Rose Theater. Committed to nurturing young artists, she leads youth programs through Luna Fête and her non-profit, People for Public Art.

Antonia Zennaro
Antonia Zennaro is a documentary photographer and social artist who explores human nature worldwide. Over the past four years, she’s developed a unique printing method using a serigraph-based technique to burn large format negatives onto fabric. Her work intimately examines social and political constructs, urging us to view the world with both critical thought and tenderness. Her creations have been showcased globally.
